I came across something interesting in my email recently, thanks to the guys at The New Pop. It was regarding some legislation that may be passed called The Orphan Works Act. I had no clue about it until I read up on the topic. Educate yourselves and spread the word.
In short, this act will not do away with Copyright Law all together, but it will give infringers free reign with regards to all authors’ / artists’ work regardless of them being alive, or having there work registered with the Copyright Office. Basically all visual artists will not be able to defend their work from being infringed upon regardless of what they go through to prevent it.
The most effective way to combat this currently is by creating a stir with a volume of letters going to your local congressman. If you follow the link below, there is a boiler plate way to write your Congressman expressing your opposition to this Orphan Works Act as it stands today.
